FIELD TRIP JEWISH HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF
WASHINGTON Participants should meet at the
1876 historic
synagogue (Lillian & Albert Small Jewish Museum) Take a guided tour of the historic synagogue building, now the Lillian & Albert Small Jewish Museum -- built in 1876. Sit in an original pew and hear what life was like for the 38 immigrant families who built the oldest surviving synagogue in Washington, DC. Learn about the physical changes to the building -- both inside and out -- and the move of the building that forever changed its future and secured its place in our nation’s capital. Visitors also may view short videos about Jewish life in the Washington area. After the visit to the Museum, the tour will continue through the 7th Street neighborhood where Jews lived, worked and worshipped and are now returning! Perhaps a group will decide to nosh together in Chinatown after the tour!
