There is no word in the Hebrew vocabulary for ‘charity’ in the modern sense. The word used is tzedakah, which literally means ‘righteousness.’ Tzedakah is not an act of condescension by the affluent toward the needy; it is the fulfillment of a moral obligation. There are many ways to meet this obligation and we are thankful that you have considered sustaining Kol Ami, the Northern Virginia Reconstructionist Community as one of your ways of meeting this responsibility.
A fun and traditional way to support the Kol Ami community is with a Tzedakah box. Traditionally contributions to it are made before the beginning of Shabbat on Fridays. But since we are non-traditional Jews, contributing on a daily basis with your loose change is ok.
If you would like to have a Tzedakah box, have a full one that needs to be collected, or any other questions about making a finacial contribution to Kol Ami, please contact our fundraising co-chairs, Noel Leavitt at tzedakah@kolaminvrc.org. You can also contact Noel at 703-426-0891. Thank you.
Contributions to Kol Ami, the Northern Virginia Recontructionist Community can be made via check or online through our secure PayPal account. Checks can be mailed to:
